Nanodelivery of natural isothiocyanates as a cancer therapeutic

نویسندگان

چکیده

Natural isothiocyanates (ITCs) are phytochemicals abundant in cruciferous vegetables with the general structure, R–NCS. They bioactive organosulfur compounds derived from hydrolysis of glucosinolates by myrosinase. A significant number have been isolated different plant sources that include broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, mustard, wasabi, and watercress. Several ITCs demonstrated to possess pharmacological properties including: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer antimicrobial activities. Due their chemopreventive effects on many types cancer, regarded as a promising therapeutic agent without major toxicity concerns. However, clinical application has hindered several factors including low aqueous solubility, bioavailability, instability well hormetic effect. Moreover, typical dietary uptake consumed for promotion good health may be far (or cytotoxic) dose necessary cancer prevention and/or treatment. Nanotechnology is one best options attain enhanced efficacy minimize effect ITCs. Nanoformulation leads enhance stability plasma emphasize effects. This review provides summary potential bioactivities ITCs, mechanisms action treatment recent research progress nanodelivery strategies efficacy.

Isothiocyanates and freeze-dried strawberries as inhibitors of esophageal cancer.

A group of arylalkyl isothiocyanates were tested for their abilities to inhibit tumorigenicity and DNA methylation induced by the esophageal-specific carcinogen, N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NMBA) in the F344 rat esophagus. Phenylpropyl isothiocyanate (PPITC) was more potent than either phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) or benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC). Phenylbutyl isothiocyanate (PBITC), howeve...

Bioinformatics-Based Prediction of FUT8 as a Therapeutic Target in Estrogen Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer

Abstract Introduction: Estrogen receptor-positive (ER-positive) breast cancer is a subgroup of breast tumors that is more likely to respond to hormone therapy. ER-positive and ER- negative breast cancers tend to show different patterns of metastasis because of different signaling cascade and genes that are activated by estrogen response. Genetic factors can contribute to high rates of metastas...

Proteins as binding targets of isothiocyanates in cancer prevention.

Isothiocyanates are versatile cancer-preventive compounds. Evidence from animal studies indicates that the anticarcinogenic activities of ITCs involve all the major stages of tumor growth: initiation, promotion and progression. Epidemiological studies have also shown that dietary intake of ITCs is associated with reduced risk of certain human cancers. A number of mechanisms have been proposed f...
